The military Special Task Force (STF) in Plateau state has ordered the Muslim community in Barkin Ladi town not to conduct the Eid el-Fitr prayer, slated for tomorrow, at their normal prayer ground.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Col. A. Baningo restricted the Muslims from conducting the prayer at the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) prayer ground situated at Sabon Layi Kwok.

“In view of the prevailing security situation in the state, I am to further advice that you look for an alternative venue,” Baningo said.

But the chairman of Barkin Ladi chapter of the JNI, Alhaji Adam Muhammad, said the Muslims have realised that both the Berom ethnic group and the Plateau state government are determined to deprive them of using the land obtained since 1968, which they have been using as a school as well as Eid prayer ground.

He insisted that the Muslims will use the land to pray, adding that they are calling on security operatives to take note and provide them with security cover rather than try to deprive them of their religious rights as peace-loving citizens of Nigeria.
