‘I would like to be a man’
Nwakaego Joy Ukairo is a part-time student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa, where she is studying Public Administration. She has worked as an administrator with a private company at Area 11, Garki, Abuja. She is from Umuahia-South of Abia state.
Would you like to be born again to the same parent, have the same siblings and other relatives?
Yes. There are no parents like mine on earth, especially my dad. So if I am given an opportunity to come to this life again, I will like them to be my parents. I would also like to have the same siblings and relatives, even though they are difficult at times, I would still like to be among them.
Would you like to grow up in the same environment or be born as a Nigeria?
The environment where I grew up is quiet funny and pleasurable, so I would not want to change it and Nigeria is my country; there’s no place like Niger, so coming back to Nigeria is just what I would like.
Would you like to have the same childhood experience, go to the same schools?
My childhood experience was fun and a lovely one for that matter, but I would like to have a better experience. My primary school was great; it was an aje pako school, that’s why I would want something better. I like my secondary school and the university I attended; in fact they are perfect.
Would you like to work in the same place or practice the same profession?
I believe in being on my own and that is what I am running after. I work under someone for now, but I would like to be on my own. And if I come again, I would like to be an entrepreneur.
What decision have you taken in life that you have regretted?
I have regretted those times when I needed to take a decision and the time was not enough for me to think and rethink. I can’t remember any specific situation for now, but it is those times I regret.
Would you like to marry the same person, have the same children?
I am not married yet and as for children, let’s leave that until they come.
Would you like to be born of the same sex?
That is a hard question. If I had been a man I would have down a lot of things. If I have to live my live again I would like to be a man, so I can do so many things that some men are not doing, like facing this Boko Haram people.
What have been the good and bad sides of your life?
The good sides of my life are my growing up years and the people I grew up with, the things I do, my parents and some of my friends that we have remained friends. The bad side is about our country Nigeria, the way things are going and no peace of mind.
What would you like to change and what would you not change?
If I have the chance to change something, it would be the educational sector. Things are not down the right way. What I would not change is the originality of the typical Nigeria man. We are created as special beings.
Would you practice the same religion?
Yes, of course. There is no other religion like Christianity. So if I come back to live my life 10 times over, I would chose to be a Christian.
Do you believe in re-incarnation?
I do not believe in re-incarnation. It’s not a subject for discussion.
Would you want to experience this world again?
Of course, like I told you, there is no place like Nigeria. I would like to come back and stay here in Nigeria with most of the friends I have now.
