Leaders of Edo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has engaged each other in war of words over the petition of General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd), the party’s candidate, in the state governorship election.
In the petition filed at the State Election Tribunal last week, Airhiavbere is challenging the academic qualification of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and other alleged irregularities in the election.
While the state PDP chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, disassociated the party from the petition, a communiqué by Leaders of Edo South Senatorial District in the state on Tuesday threw their weight behind the petition, saying that the petitioner (Airhiavbere) cannot be deprived of his constitutional right to seek justice.
But the party’s senatorial chairman, Mr. Lucky Imasuen, yesterday described the leaders’ position as illegal, unholy and inconsequential.
“Such act by Imasogie and his cohorts is indiscipline, anti-party and general gross misconduct. Moreover, a disciplinary committee will be put in place to check their excesses in due course.
“The senatorial wishes to re-affirm that the July 14, 2012 governorship election was well-conducted, most organised and free from all forms of electoral manipulations.
“Therefore, Edo South PDP wishes to join the PDP state chapter and the federal government to congratulate, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his well deserved landslide victory,” he said.
