Cult clash: 4 killed in Enugu
No fewer than four people were killed, including a local government councillor with Enugu-South Local Government Area yesterday in a renewed cult clash that started on Sunday night.
This is coming as the police intensified effort to track down the kidnappers of the Vice-chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof. Cyprian Onyeji.
The VC was abducted on Wednesday at the university’s gate.
Blueprint gathered that despite the arrest of 14 persons in connection with the Sunday night and Monday clash between the Viking and Two-Two group by the Enugu state police command, the aggrieved group that lost a member on Monday took their turn yesterday and killed a councillor and three other persons in Uwani, in Enugu-South council area.
Sources said that the councillor, whose name was yet to be ascertained at the time of this report, was alleged to be a member of Viking cult group, which allegedly killed one Okwudili, popularly known as Salense, who was believed to be a member of Two-Two cult group.
Our correspondent gathered that two of the victims were killed in the morning, while the other was killed at Peter Okoye street in Uwani area of Enugu. The fourth victim was murdered at Onu-Asata after midday.
The fourth victim of the senseless gangster war is a councillor in one of the local councils of the state who was killed at One Day Road, Awkunanawa in Enugu south local government area of Enugu state.
It was also gathered that the captors of the ESUT’s vice chancellor have demanded N200 million ransom.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Enugu state command, DSP, Ebere Amaraizu, did not confirm the ransom demand, but confirmed that the VC’s vehicle has been recovered, adding that the police were stepping up efforts to track down the hoodlums.
Amaraizu confirmed the killings in cult-related violence, saying that the police were investigating the murders.
