Youth Minister made life bencher by legal body
The Minister of Youth Development, Inuwa Abdulkadir Esq, has been accorded membership of the highest body in the legal profession (the body of benchers). This body is the highest level in the legal profession consisting of legal jurists and luminaries of the high distinction.
A statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adewunmi Adesugba, explains that the elevation to the position of a Life Bencher is reserved for those who have made a benchmark in the profession.
“This esteemed life-long position is reserved for individuals of renowned standing in the legal profession. The Body of Benchers has the statutory responsibility of calling new lawyers to the Nigerian Bar and admitting them into the legal profession after passing their professional examination and having been properly screened to ascertain that they are suitable to be admitted to practice as legal practitioners in Nigeria,” it states.
According to the statement, Abdulkadir who served the Body as a Bencher for many years was the former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Sokoto state, shortly after receiving the official communication of his elevation.
In the minister’s words, “I deem the responsibility imposed on me as a Life Bencher as a sacred duty.”
It would be recalled that, Abdulkadir has been an active and dynamic “Bar man”having been a member at various times of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association and that of the Sokoto branch.
He was also Vice-Chairman of the branch and member of the Sokoto State Judicial Service Commission, as well as member, Council of Legal Education and member of the Faculty Board of Law, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
