IGR: Kano targets N2bn

Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

Kano state government, through the state’s Ministry of Finance and Board for Internal Revenue, is blocking all leakages in its internal revenue drive so that very soon it could be generating over N2 billion monthly.

The state Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, yesterday said the state is now generating N1.6 billion monthly against the N400 million, monthly it generated during the administration of  former governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.

The commissioner, who was at Mambayya House to attend a two-day workshop on capacity building organised by the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (Moppan) attributed the success to hard work, proper supervision  management staff and discipline introduced into the state’s civil service by the present administration.

“You will not believe it that Kano state, the centre of commerce of West Africa with giant markets like the famous Kantin Kwari, Singer, Abubakar Rimi Market, Sabon Gari and hundreds of industries, is only generating a meagre sum of N400 million per month,” he noted.
