Air crashes damage aviation records – Minister

Aviation minister Mrs Stella Oduah

The Minister of Aviation, Mrs Stella Oduah has said that the large number of air traffic accidents per million departures in Africa has given the industry an unimpressive rating in aviation safety.

Oduah stated this when she declared open, a meeting of Directors General of Civil Aviation Authorities and other aviation safety experts in Abuja, yesterday.

The minister recalled the recent air disasters that struck the industry and advocated for a restructure of the aviation industry.

She explained that the meeting of the experts is expected to proffer solutions to the problem of aviation safety in Africa and ensure significant improvement of safety in the airspace.

“We are working towards repositioning the aviation sector which includes re-certification of the industry and resuscitation of aviation infrastructure.

“I am confident that at the end of this meeting, recommendations will be made that will not only enhance safety but will ensure the sustainable development of air transportation in Africa,” She said.
